Please Help Lap Ban Comm.!!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks all!!

@Becca29....I have BCBS and they will approve the surgery if I meet certain conditions (ie. diabetes, BMI over 40 and etc.) which I do. I believe they require 6 months of supervised weight loss in which I already have a year and a half so I am good in this category as well. I am excited and terrified at the same time (which is normal, I'm sure).

@everyone....I will most definitely keep you all posted as things progress. Having this site has really helped to calm the waters. I am encouraged to move forward because I know that there are many out there who have not only walked the path before me but also really care about each other!!

I will say it again and a hundred times more....YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!

Of course it's normal to be scared, it's a HUGE decision, and not one to be entered into lightly!

The lap band is not for everyone... psychologically is a whole other issue (which can be detected before banding), but the band does not work for all. It's a risk you have to take. But I suggest weighing the pros & cons.

For me, I was crippled at 22 and I could try this and if it failed I'd try something else, but if I sat and did nothing, my quality of life was deteriorating rapidly.

3 years out, I'm not completely happy with my band (great weight loss, 2 surgeries to fix broken band--all out of pocket, weight regain, some weight reloss).. but it got me to a happier quality of life even though I'm not where I "hoped" to be.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
