Anyone do Zumba?

Recommended Posts

Is it really a good workout, or is it more of a *fun* class? What parts/muscles does it work out? On a scale of 1-10, how intense is it? Thanks!

I do Zumba 3 days a week. I have lost more weight than I was just doing my walking and elliptical. When I saw my doctor he wanted to know what I had been doing to have lost so much..Said that it can burn up to a 1000 calories.. I love it.

I'm about 6 weeks post-op. I tried Zumba last week and I only lasted about 30 minutes. I think if I knew what the steps and the moves were then I would have been able to do better. I was just really hard to keep up when it goes so fast and there isn't anyone to teach the basics before you jump into the deep end, so to speak.

Anyway, I tried spinning a couple days later and that totally kicked my butt!

Good luck!!!

I take a Zumba class weekly and it definitely burns some major calories! I feel it most in my legs and my abs. I definitely work up a sweat! I love it! I've lost 4 inches around my stomach since starting the class 6 weeks ago.

On occasion it's hard to keep up, and I feel ridiculous sometimes, but it's the best/most enjoyable workout short of running that I've found!

Zumba is great! I love it! It's is hard to keep up as a beginner, but the more you do it, the better you get at it. It does burn up to 1,000 calories and works EVERY part of your body. It is a fun workout!

I do Zumba at least 3 days a week and love it! It's fun but can be a bit intimidating at first.

My instructors always say that if you can't do what they're doing just keep moving, it's not about what they're doing that it's about moving.

I purchased the DVDs and I find that they are much harder then the classes because there is no outside motivation to keep you going like in the classes.

I'd say try it... you have nothing to lose but weight! :smile2:

Zumba is the best work out I have every done, just in the fact that it has me coming back every week.

I do atleast 3 days a week and everyother week I do 4, if there were more classes offered each week I would go 7 days a week.

I feel the work out in just about every area, arms, legs, butt, abs and back. The intensity is really up to you at first its difficult to learn the steps but once you have the basics down you can really start to add in more complex movements. (ei. a plain shuffle compared to a shuffle with hips added in)

For the the intensity is just right, I sweat and push myself and can still make it the entire hour.

And the best thing about Zumba... Its just fun.

I went to my first class last week. Apparently the regular instructor was out, and the replacement was teaching us all sorts of interesting clubbing moves (popping, crunking, shaking our booty). It was an interesting class. The regulars told me to come back this week to try a *real* zumba class.

Morning to all my Zumba friends!!

Zumba classes are simply too much fun! It can be a little overwhelming at first, since the choreo is a bit challenging, but it's definitely a class where the emphasis is on moving in rhythm with the music, not necessarily being able to do exactly what the instructor does. For example, some of the moves are still a bit too high impact for me, so in order to protect my knees and ankles, I just modify them slightly.

I'd recommend, if you have never taken Zumba before, that you check out the zumba.com website and search for a Zumba Gold instructor in your area (you can search by your zip code). Gold is specifically designed for 1) those just starting, 2) those who are physically challenged, or new to exercising, and 3) older adults/disabled (did you know that there is actually a Zumba program available for those who cannot easily stand?). Same great music, but a bit slower paced and with less complex choreo.

So, just a little motivation...I started my band journey at 305, having not exercised in a VERY long time. Had my surgery on 2/26/10...now, 65 pounds and several sizes lighter...and I became a licensed Zumba instructor a month ago :-)

Come and join the party- you can do it!!!

Hugs, Christine

Depends on the intructer. Some do tougher routines that really pump your heart. It's always fun though.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
