Wow have I fallen off the wagon!!

Recommended Posts

I was so Focesed on getting down to weight, and quiting smoking for my second appointment with the surgeon on 5/27/10. Nobody in the surgeons office could believe I actually went to all the appointments and lost the weight that quick, in fact when I called to schedule the follow up they acted as though there was no way I had everything done. I met all the goals the had told me to, and they submitted my request to the insurance company, and told me to just maintain the weight loss until the surgery date. I left there thinking wow that was easy, now all I have to do is maintain the loss. Well that weekend was Memorial day weekend, of course there was a family picnic, lots of awesome chow, then another picnic with friends and of course more good chow, the next weekend friends came to visit from out of town, so of course more good chow. As I was going to these picnics I was thinking, I have always been able to lose weight really quick, so If I gain a pound or two, no biggie.. Well I completely lost sight of the goal, and today almost three weeks later I weighed myself, at almost 15lbs over the weight I needed to maintain!! I am so scared that the doctor will call and say, hey we got your approval, come on in to weigh in schedule your endoscopy and your surgery. I started back at the gym today, and am going back on a 800 to 1000 cal a day diet today.

I know there must be a few people out there that have mad the same mistake? Does anyone have advise on getting the 15lbs off very quickly? I'm OK with quick gimmick diets to get to my goal quickly, and through working out, and eating less I'll maintain the weight from there, I will not let myself slip again!

I am so MAD at myself right now! Seems like I did all that hard work for nothing right now.

I know many ways to lose 15lbs in a hurry but none of them is good for you. So, I am not going to mention them.

Instead, I suggest that you climb right back on the wagon. You know where it is parked. Do whatever you were doing to lose the weight in the first place and throw in a lot more exercise.

You can do this!!

Although that's not the answer I was looking for, it most likely the correct one!

You may want to consider doing liquid diet of using good quality whey Isolate Protein powder. Some brands that I like are: Gold Standard (found Vitamin Shoppe) 100% Whey; and GNC Pro Performance whey isolate 28. The latter is 140 cal, 1 g fat, 4 g Carb, 28 g Protein.

Talk with your Nutrionist. My surgery had to be postponed for other health reasons; but my Nut approved the below diet that I was using for the PreSurgery liquid diet.

In the winter I was adding 1/3 cup of frozen fruit to the mix; now that it's summer I eat a piece of fresh fruit. Yes this adds carbs but for me fruit carbs are different than Cookies, crackers, bread carbs.

Sample shake recipe: Protein Powder, Fat Free Milk (2 Milk "ice cubes" + 2/3 cup milk), 2 fruit flavored (zero cal) Water "ice cubes", fruit optional, 1 teaspoon suger/fat free pudding mix, optional 1 teaspoon suger free chocolate Syrup, optional splenda packet. I use a Hampton Beech single serving mixer, $15 at Target/Walmart which works fabulous.

My surgeon said the same thing to me - once I attained the weight loss they wanted me to have, they just told me to maintain it.

In previous dieting attempts, I did exactly what you did. I stopped looking at the scale because I did not want to see a number. I kept telling myself I would get back on track and look at the scale when I had a feeling it would look better. Of course I just stopped looking at the scale altogether.

Since beginning this process, I have purchased 3 new scales! I keep them in my basement gym, the bathroom and my bedroom. No more cheating and avoiding the numbers. When you said you went three weeks without looking at the scale, this so totally reminded me of myself.

Well, you know what the answer is - you lost it before, you can do it again. There are no easy ways out. Cutting carbs, increasing Protein and drinking lots of Water can help get a better number on the scale short term.

Just a note - although I actually lost several more pounds when they told me to 'maintain' - my surgeon did not weigh me in on the surgery day! They just asked me what I weighed, I told them, and they just wrote down my answer!:tongue2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
