how to know if your getting enough to eat

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 5. I am doing soft foods. I am loosing weight. How do you know you are getting enough food. I don't get the feeling you do when your stomach says your full. I don't want to eat to much to see.

I haven't thrown up any. I know that can happen alot when you overeat.

Just making sure band is good. I'm not having any issues with it.

My doctor gave me guidelines about how much to eat-- did your doctor give you anything like that for the first several weeks out?

With the band, I've found that I don't get that normal "belly full" kind of feeling. I just try to stop eating when I'm not hungry any more. (which is harder until you get to solid foods.)

Do you have enough energy to go about your day? If so, I'd say you are getting enough.

The fullness is definitely different than before the band, but it still exists. Hard to explain. But I have a distinct feeling when I know I shouldn't eat anymore. You can experiment to see. I have never thrown up from eating too much. Yes - I have pushed it. (ONLY AFTER FULLY HEALING...I would not recommend "testing" it until you are COMPLETELY healed.) But yes - agree to what the previous poster said - your dr should have given you some kind of guideline so you have some idea when you should start feeling full.

As everyone else stated. Your doctor should have given you guidelines. You really shouldn't be eating more than 3 oz of food.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
