Dr. checked fill level and now OUCH!

Recommended Posts

I was suspicious after my fill last month. It felt different, and I had no change in restriction, so I was worried that she missed. So yesterday I went in and, no surprise there, she had missed. The Dr. removed all the Fluid in my band, measured it, put it back and added 1cc more.

She warned me doing an unfill and fill like that could make me swell up inside, and keep me on liquids for an extra day or two, and she was right!

Has anyone else experienced a much harder time recovering from a fill after the levels were checked?

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having issues. My Surg always pulls all of the Fluid out when I get my fills. He will prefill the syringe with how much Fluid he and I think should be added, finds my port, pulls all of the fluid out, flushes the line a few times, and finally puts all of the fluid in. Then we're done! I asked him last time why he did the put fluid in/ pull fluid out thing. He said it was to flush the line of any air pockets so that the fluid amount in there is a true amount.

But I've never had it hurt. It was uncomfortable when he was doing it but not bad.

I had a similar experiance to you. I had my first fill Aug 6th by my family dr who had never done it before. We think he missed too but the swelling initially gave me some restriction. Its a 13hr drive to the clinic where I had my surgery and I'd really rather not drive that far for a 5 min appointment. I hope he figures it out next week when we try again.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
