Nausea and Vomiting post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Haven't had my surgery yet but just had a question.

Had anyone had much trouble with nausea and vomiting since your surgery. If so, does anything in particular make it worse/better.

Thanks,

Teresa

I did not have any problem with nausea or vomiting after surgery. As a certified herbalist I made sure my hubby had a jug of ginger tea for me to sip on on the way home just in case. I am not big on medications and ginger always does the trick or me, even in the most severe cases. My doctor prescribed something for nausea but I didn't need it because I had the tea to sip on. Good luck.

I have been nauseated a couple of times in the last year but very infrequently. Doctor sent me home from hospital with some anti-nausea tablets - I am still using the same prescription - that is how often I need them :-)

I did not have any vomiting until the first time I got stuck which was a few months in and now I only vomit when stuck which is not very often and only if I eat too fast or am not paying attention properly.

Non banded people have asked me about vomiting a few times but it really is not an issue for me at all.

Good luck with your surgery.

What helped me was not sitting upright too soon. Reclining in a lounge chair was okay, but sitting straight up made me nauseous, then the dry heaving irritated my already swollen stomach even more.

Try to plan on taking it easy for at least a week after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
