Did you guys have to fill out a HUGE pack of papers?

I don't even know how to answer some of this stuff. There's a list of like 60 diets and you have to put which ones you've tried and when you tried them and how much you lost. I can't remember any of that stuff. I know which diets I've tried but I'm not sure about dates or losses:( It's going to take me a week to get through this paperwork.

You absolutely need to find out what your insurance requirements are FIRST. After you know that you can fill out the paperwork correctly to get it to pass through the insurance without too many problems. Educated guesses is what I did on my paperwork and it worked, but I knew the insurance requirements beforehand. If you truly want/need the surgery, arm yourself with knowledge.

What insurrance do you have? With BSBC I had to just really estamate my 5 year diet history. This was just a stab in the dark for me. I did not need to show proof for any of that. They did require a supervised 6 mo diet with in the past year. That I had to show the paprework. I had only 4 mos. so I did another 2 mos with the Lap Band Surgeon. They accepted that. I was supprised the diet did not have to be 6 consecutive months.

I have United Health Care and I tried calling to see what their requirements are but they said my employer's plan doesn't list the requirements. My surgeon requires you to fill out these papers b/c he sends it in with your predetermination.

Ooo. I am sure this can be overwhelming. Just try to take it one page at a time otherwise the whole paket can make you want to throw your arms up in the air and get a snack instead. Good Luck and please let us know how it turns out. It is a lot of work and can get very emotional at times but in the end it is worth it!!

The surgeons office should do most and walk you through the rest. If they don't; find one that will.

the paperwork should be the least of your concerns - give them what they need, call if you need help

good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
