Can you call and find out what your insurance requires?

Recommended Posts

What I mean is yesterday I was told it would likely be a six month process b/c most insurance companies require a 6 month supervised diet first. But the lady said she wouldn't really know until my insurance tells her and she won't even try to find out for at least 3 more weeks.

Is there a way that I can call and just ask them what the requirements are?

Hmm, Okay I called my insurance company and asked them what is required as far as a supervised diet and the lady said she had no idea. She said all my plan states is that it will be covered if your BMI is 40 or over OR a BMI of 35 with one comorbidity. That's it. So what does that mean? The surgeon is going to submit a pre dertimination but not until they have all my paperwork ready and that could take another 3-4 weeks.

That's odd. I was able to call BCBS and find out exactly what they required before I even talked to a surgeon.

I have BCBS and all I did was call and ask what the criteria was I had to meet to be approved for the weight loss surgery and they told me everything over the phone in about 5 mins.

I called my PC DR and started the diet required 2 days later.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
