Is it normal to feel scared/worried/insecure?

Recommended Posts

I've been overweight for 12 years now. Nothing has changed about my weight but suddenly now that I have admitted to dh that I actually qualify for Lap Band and our insurance will cover it I'm feeling so insecure:(

I want this done so badly but I know that at some point I'll have to tell my other family members I'm trying to get it done and at that point I think I'm going to feel even worse. They are so judgemental and I carry my weight pretty well so people are always shocked when they find out that I weigh a LOT more than they thought. Dh understands why I want this done and he's supportive and so is my Mom but I'm not sure everyone else will be.

I know this post makes no sense and I'm just rambling but I'm feeling so many things right now.

Ok take a deep breath! First congratulations on wanting a better life. When we begin to think about this we all are apprehensive somewhat so no problem there. I would suggest that you and your husband be the only ones that know about the band till you feel strong enough to talk to your other family members. They never need to know your private thoughts or actions to better yourself. So poo poo on them if they can't be empathetic in your time of need for their support. Do you really want their support? Just concentrate on what you have to do, when the time comes and you have had the procedure if you want you can tell them, but honestly they are not paying nor helping in this time why tell them anything. I have a number of band friends and we all agree we tell who we feel comfortable telling, even on Facebook we never bring it up. So get started on this exciting and fabulous journey~

Take heart you are going to do wonderful and as far as anyone needs to know you are eating healthy and exercising, you just have a bonus with the band that helps you!

Take Care

Sandee

Good Afternoon;

Repeat after me "I do not need anyone's permission to regain my health". Now say that 3 times.

Next say it in a "Dirty Harry" voice.

Next say it with emphasis on each succeeding word in the phrase. Like I don't need .........

then I DON'T need

and so on.

I know it's a bit of a game, but this is your life and you need no ones permission for anything. Just you and your husband.

Warm Regards

Hal

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
