I am 11 days till surgery and they just started me on my 5 Meal Replacements a day (800 calorie diet). Only problem is, I'm throwing up the shakes in the morning. I cannot drink milk in the morning for this reason. It's not a lactose thing but a consistency thing. Any suggestions what i could do? I did try putting crystal light in the shake but that made it worse. :o I CANNOT continue to throw up my Breakfast every morning.

Sometimes if you drink something hot like herbal tea or hot Water with lemon you can get your band to loosen a bit so you can keep the shake down.

Maybe you can start your breakfast a little later on in the morning, closer to afternoon, without starving yourself, if that is possible.

I don't think if anyone read her correctly, but she is 11 UNTIL surgery. She hasn't been banded yet.

Jenna, are you on Optifast? That's what I was on. They told me to do 5 shakes a day, but I hardly made it there...actually I don't even remember going up to 5. You aren't supposed to mix the shakes with milk - Water only. That could be your problem. Also, drink lots and lots of Water. That will help with the hungery pains.

Try Dole 100% juice, they have different flavors.. I don't drink milk with my Protein Shakes, , they are nasty and sometimes it makes my stomach blow up with gas.. I mix my Protein shakes with that, that's the only way I drink them..

THANK FOR THE QUICK RESPONSES, GUYS! I am not mixing the drinks with anything but Water. Tried taking crystal light and mixing with that.....bad choice. I had to dilute the shake down to pretty much nothing. I am drinking my shake right now and gagging every sip. It has gotten better now that I put in a ton of extra water. The Bariatric Advantage drink I have right now is slimy. When I dilute it, that helps but its the initial first taste that makes me gag.:o The after taste isn't as bad.

Why not call the doctor and tell them so they could suggest maybe something else.

Try some “Muscle Milk Light” it is only 100 calories ready to drink and pretty light not heavy texture. I get it at Target, HEB, or Vitamin Shoppe. Can you have protien bar instead? Power Crunch Peanut Butter from Vitamin Shoppe are really good. You can order on internet, they are wafer like and almost melt in your mouth.

Bariatric Advantage is nasty! I'd puke it back up too.

Dr Kim offers Optifast and I did it for 4 straight weeks without a problem. I love the stuff.

If you still are having an issue, call his office. Dr Kim has the most caring staff in the world and they will help.

I was only able to tolerate the Isopure ready to drink Protein Drinks. They aren't milk based and come in a variety of flavors. Being post op and on solids I drink half of one bottle a day to supplement my Protein.< /p>

LOL, once I read that you were using Bariatric Advantage I completely understood. That stuff made me queasy too! I caved during preop and resorted to using some old Medifast shakes I still had. I still tried getting one BA shake down a day, but it was SO hard and I could never finish it. I still have the big tubs of it, thinking they might come in handy after a bad hurricane if food runs low. That's the only reason I'd touch BA again: SURVIVAL!

My pre-surgery two-week diet consisted of two Protein Shakes and one reasonable meal a day, with veggies and Protein Snacks between if I was desperate. If you had such a plan, you could have a reasonable breakfast of regular foods and shakes the remainder of the day.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
