I started with an empty band and was hungry almost immediately. About one week out I started with creamed Soups and Cream of Wheat (I added unflavored Protein powder). Gradually introduced greek yogurt (dribble some honey on top), scrambled eggs, a baked yam. I had no problem with these things. Remember to keep your protein high and drink a lot of fluids. This helps with the hunger. Many will tell you to call your doctor but I just started really slowly with these things and was fine...best wishes!!!

I was banded a week and a half ago and got super-hungry by day 3 so I cheated a little on my Clear Liquids and added dilluted Tomato Soup to my diet. I had my post-op check-up last Wednesday (day 6) and my doc said I could move on to mushies/soft foods and after 10 days (which would be this Saturday), real food. So that's less than 3 weeks between surgery and real food. A lot of people on here are told not to eat real food or even soft food for months. I think it really just depends on how you're tolerating it. Just be careful not to overeat and listen to your body and you'll probably be fine. You could consult your doctor though, just to give you piece of mind. That's what they're there for, after all.

I had mushies 1 week after surgery- real food the next week. I had no problems. However, like already said, you probably should talk to your doc.

My first week I was allowed full liquids, which included:

juice

instant Breakfast

cream Soup (strained)

instant mashed potatoes (made thin)

cream of wheat or rice

malt-o-meal

milk

kefir

yogurt

pudding

Jello

popsicles

Second week, mushies. Third week, soft foods transitioning to regular foods as tolerated.

My first week I was terribly nauseated, but by the second week I was starving too. Hang in there, it gets better. These first days post op feel like forever, but they'll be long gone before you know it.

I was just banded last Thursday. I was on clear liquids until my doc came to see me Friday night (ended up in the hospital an extra night because of an unknown antibiotic allergy). Friday night he said that I could move on to pureed foods and that he thought I could handle them fine. Okay...I thought I was supposed to go to full liquids, but he's the boss. So, I had yogurt and applesauce and was full after a couple of spoonfuls. My band seems to handle it okay.

This morning (Tuesday) the bariatric nurse calls and asked how I was. I told her I was on pureed and that I had had a bit of tuna and a scrambled egg. She then started to say I should only be on liquids. I told her to check the chart and I was only doing what the doc said and she checked and said...well, we usually don't do that, but, you're right, it is noted. However, you should still only do liquids. Ummm....what?

The fact is...no one has the right answer for what to eat yet. Probably not enough decisive studies yet. I'd say go by your doctor, but hey, if you do that, you still get reamed out apparently. Me, I'm sticking to about 1/4 cup cottage cheese, a scrambled egg maybe and a few small forks of tuna on occasion (this is over a couple days), otherwise it's Protein shakes for me.

(My band was not filled but my stomach was fatty and thus putting the band on has caused restriction. Doc says when I start losing a decent amount of fat, the band will have less restriction and then we might need to fill it. In other words, I may not need a fill for up to 6 months at first!)

I was supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks but then after reading all the people on here who had a doctor that said a week was ok, I started mushy food after a week also.

So like soft scrambled eggs, chili that I mushed up and stuff like that.

I didn't have a problem just eat slow.

I also found lots of blogs online to follow from fellow bandsters and I started one too. Follow me the link is below.

I was on full liquids for a week and could transition to soft/mushy for 2 weeks. I started with soft mushy but have pretty much eaten anything but just chew till mush. I have tolerated everything so far. Ready for a fill I am hungry after eating the 4oz alotted meals.

Ok so I totally cheated and am going straight to lapband hell!! Just sayin..lol I did the first full week of clear liquids but then Saturday night came and the then came the cook out and I smelled it chicken and ribs with fajita seasoning. My neighbor made them just the way i love them and I cracked like an old dried out tree branch. Plus the fact that I was starving to the point of utter crabbiness!

But in my defense, I did very good. While I wanted to gobble up a rack of ribs alone I ate first 1 chicken wing. and I chewed it to an nice soft puree, enjoying every bit of it's juiciness, and I waited about 20 minutes and then i had 1 rib and again I chewed it to death, it was so good in my mouth i was afraid to swallow...lol and I waited another 20 minutes and then i had a small piece of corn about 3 rows wide, no salt no butter and didn't finish because I felt "It", The "IT" that I have been looking for for so long....fullness and it let me tell you was amazing!!! I was happy and not stuffed or feeling sick.

So maybe I go to lap band hell but i'll go happy...lol

Y'all have a great and safe Memorial Day Weekend! and if ya get a chance thank a Soldier or two! I miss mine!!

Banded May 17, 10. Clear liquids for about 4 days, then full liquids about 4 days, then started solids...I'm very careful about what I choose, but I am doing awesome. I've lost 7 pounds (3.5 pounds each week). Sometimes I feel I'm eating too much, but hoping when I get my fill that will help. I have been craving sugar which is so wierd, because sugar was never my problem before. Made the mistake of buying dum dum suckers, thinking I'll just suck on one or two....nope, I was eating them....knocked out 5 and I plan on taking them to my sisters, let her kids have them. There are only 25 calories in one..........but, can't seem to stop. argh! Regardless, I'm doing very well.

Havens, I found myself doing that with cough drops, I sucked on about 3 of them and chewed the rest of them like candy, I had my 12 yr old hide them from me..lol

Its important to realize...cheating led you to where your at now.

HOWEVER..that being said... I broke and had 3 lays potato chips and licked some freeze bitten leftover rocky road ice cream I had in the freezer!!!

I suppose everyone will likely cheat... but I love seeing the results on my scale more then stuffing flavorfull food in my mouth.

I am down 12 lbs and I am only 5 days post op.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
