I was given Supradol (toradol in the USA) to take for pain on my trip home to Canada tomorrow. I have a 6 hour flight and then a 2 hour flight. I have read some negative things about the drug online and that some people get really nauseated and sick from this stuff. I think I would rather sit in pain for 6 hours than spend the whole trip throwing up and risk my band slipping. Any advice out there?

I took Toradol a couple years ago, never had any problems with it.

I had it right after surgery for my ride home and it had no adverse effects.. In fact I really don't remember much after surgery , but I do know that I was not sick from it. Also remember that everyone reacts differently to medication.

I am fascinated that they gave you torodol to begin with after surgery. Since it is a NSAID, one of the side effects is bleeding as well as renal failure. Now the renal failure rarely happens and i have only seen it once in 20 years. Torodol is used alot for bone pain. Don't see it much for surgical incisonal abdominal discomfort due to the bleeding tendency and not especially right after surgery...Good luck. I am sure you will be just fine....

I have taken Toradol for years due to massive Migraine attacks. i take it intramuscularly (shot) now, but when I took it orally, if I took it on an empty stomach I sometimes felt queezy. It's similar to aspirin in the effects on the gastric system and I solved the queezy-ness by drinking some milk with it.

Hope that helps!

Hugs,

Heather

Toradol is a strong NSAID. Was it prescribed by your surgeon? If so, I'm quite surprised; most veto NSAIDs for banded patients, particularly soon after surgery.

It's a good drug for pain relief, but really does carry with it more GI side effects than other NSAIDS, unless it's administered intramuscularly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
