Hi folks!

I have been a lurker for some time taking in bits, and pieces of information here and there.

In January of 2010 I went to my doctors for another issue besides my weight. I remember that day fondly because I couldn't find any clothes that actually fit without squeezing into them with my rear hanging out. I remember feeling, so uncomfortable, and worst of all guilty that I was going to face the one guy in my life that was not going to be pleased with my weight.

When I got on the scale my jaw, and heart both hit the floor equally as hard. 319. hummm 36 years old, and 319 pounds.

I remember sitting on the table, and thinking about my four year old daughter and wife. How I have tried everything from: Diets to the Gym only to end up the "Fat & Cardiovascularly fit guy" on the treadmill. When I'd stop either a diet or the gym i'd gain it all back PLUS - PLUS - PLUS.

When my doctor walked in I broke down, and started to tear up. He knew what I was thinking without saying a word. I looked at him point blank, and said to him "If I am over weight at 40 I am afraid I may take my own life. I can't live this way any longer." We both decided to see the proper folks on surgical weight loss.

Since then I have lost about 30 lbs:smile2: thru diet, and exercise. I have almost completed all my pre-op requirements. Tomorrow I have my: x-ray, ekg, and upper Gi.

My motto has been, "I am going to be a success story or I am going to die trying."

I decided that the lap band was right for me based on the following: I don't eat sweets, and other goodies. I am for the lack of better term LARGE portion carbo-holic.

I thank you for taking the time to read my introduction it is my turn to fill the rest of this journey with many positive, and hard worked memories.:)

You are very inspiring for me! I LOVE your motto and I feel your pain! I too have been in the position of facing the truth with my doctor on several occasions, and the loving repremanding he gave me in return! I have my first official appointment with the surgeon on Thursday, and I am nervous, but I am excited nervous! Keep up the great work, I hope to read more posts regarding your journey! :)

Well hit some hurdles in my journey. I was delayed due to GERD. I had a scope done, and they saw a small patch of "Barrett's". I have been rescheduled for SEPT 7th.

Good news I lost 54 Lbs without the band so far - Might as well just keep moving along!:)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
