New to the site, with impending surgery date

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

My name is Nicole aka FXA. Here come the stats

Age: 29

Current Weight: 126kg (277lbs)

Date of surgery: 06/16/10

Location of surgery: Sweden (Nyköping Sjukhuset)

Surgeon name: Dr. Per Lundquist

I'm originally from America, but moved here to Sweden 1.5 years ago. I have been overweight for my entire adult life and most of my adolescents. So getting this surgery is a great ray of hope for a much more positive future. Most of my family is overweight or obese. My father's side is extremely bad, with virtually every ailment known to man.

Thankfully here in Sweden this surgery is covered by social healthcare. So I don't have to deal with insurance companies or any of that crap. The biggest problem I have been facing is waiting for my surgery date. It took like 8 months to get the appt to meet the doc who does the surgery, because of some communication issues (swedish/english thing). I met the surgeon back in Oct 2008, and was told 4-6 months for the surgery. But there has been a few setbacks. But at last, I have a surgery date!

My father had this procedure nearly 3 years ago back in the states, and had mediocre results. But my father is the worst patient in the world. lol. He's italian and loves his pizza and bread and all things bad for you. But with his procedure he had to do liquid diet for 2 weeks before the surgery and up to 2 months after. Of course he didn't follow the docs instructions. My doc says liquid diet beforehand is not necessary. And I'll likely be on the liquid state for 4-6 weeks after the surgery.

Also worth noting, my doc plans to put the thing to adjust the band just under my breastbone. Which is completely different then where my father has is. So there are a few differences. :smile2:

Anyway. So there's the short-version of my story. I'm feeling an overflow of a wide range of emotions. The main one being excitement!

I'm so glad I found this forum so I have someplace to go for help and support through the journey! I look forward to getting to know some of you.

P.S. I do plan to start a LapBand/Weight Loss Blog. Just wanted to wait until there was something more to write about.

Hi FXA, I'm new to this site too. Congrats on your decision:thumbup:!! I started last Aug 09. I think you really need the time to get your head in the right place. My surgery date is 07/07/10:ohmy:!! I'm excited and can't wait. When is your date? I've already been encouraged by so many nice people:smile2:. Best of luck and much success!! Carol D' (just outside of Boston, MA)

Where in US are you from?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
