i am pigging out

Recommended Posts

my surgery date is approaching and i have been pigging out for a few weeks now. i feel so horrible and full and miserable, yuk...:) i guess i'm trying to subconciously trick myself into thinking i better eat everything i can get my hands on while i can. now i'm so miserable. i hate it when i do this.

mariposa, i noticed you said you were a lightweight and that's why you went to mexico. i'm in the same boat. i'm way lighter than what the states require but i know i need help and i'll do what i have to to get it. i'll be in mexico on the 13th for surgery, as well as my mom, she's getting banded after me. we're both short and fat, and it's been a constant battle my whole life. i can't remember a time that i wasn't battling this. i've noticed that the heavier people who have this done lose alot right away. do you feel that since, as a lightweight you had less to lose, you're weight loss has been alot slower? i need to lose50 -60 pounds, i'm just wondering if it's going to be alot slower than usual.

I'm the same, at the lighter end of what my surgeon would consider. I swore blind I wouldnt stuff my face until surgery day and so far I havent - I usually do pretty well when I want to avoid gaining weight, like on holidays etc, but I cant seem to actually lose weight. I wanted to lose and I havent lost anything, but at least I havent gained I guess.

My surgeon's office rang yesterday to remind me its time for the Optifast diet (3 weeks till surgery) I said "he said I didnt have to do it" and she checked with my file and said "you're right, lucky you". And I was thinking "thank goodness, I dont think I'd be able to", lol, some banded patient I'll be right? Cant even do the pre-op diet.

After surgery I'll see how I go but I have steeled myself for less spectacular initial weight loss. I need to lose about 70-80lb.

Suki, from my experience, I have lost very slowly, I started at 190 and wanted to lose about 50-55 lbs, I thought surely it will be fast since I don't have as much to lose. But I was hit with a slap on the face, it has been a year since I was banded and I am still not at goal. I was down to 146 right after my tt and Lipo and have gained back to 159, yuck! Will I ever win this weight loss battle?? I went without a fill for a long time due to the recover time from the ps, but I got filled this week and I think I over did it. I have been suffering with horrible acid reflux and I am so miserable. I had gotten a fill last week from 1.5cc's up to 2cc's and felt nothing, and went back on Wednesday and got an additional .75 cc's so I'm up to a total of 2.75 cc's and I'm too tight and now its tough luck for me. My doctor is out of town for the holidays and I'm stuck with too tight of a fill, it really sucks, but its all my fault.

I didn't have to do any pre-op diets so I continued to eat normally until my surgery date so I did enjoy some of my favorite foods. Its normal, so don't be so hard on yourself. Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

I'm here if you need me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
