survived my 1st fill

Recommended Posts

Ok, so all-in-all it was no big deal.

I drank a Protein Shake for Breakfast. I check in at the doc, he looked thru an ultrasound at my port and then he stuck that needle in and out so quick I hardly felt a thing. I couldn't feel the band filling or anything. Then I got up and went and drank barium and saw the x-ray. He said I had had no restriction and I still don't have much but he didn't want to press it, especially the week before Thanksgiving. I got 1.6 cc's in a 4cc band. He told me liquiids for 2 days, mushies for 2 days, and then back to normal. I get another fill on Dec. 1st. He said 7 weeks was too long to go before the 1st fill and I should have had it 4 weeks after surgery. Ooops. Anyways, I'm getting caught up now. I didn't feel anything for about an hour or two and then I drank some Water andI could kind of feelit going down. Now my tummy feels tight like my stomach is being squeezed or someone is hugging me really tight. I hope this feeling will go away soon so I can relax. Anyways, all-in-all it was no big deal, and I won't be scared when I go back on Dec 1st.

My fills are a bit disconcerting. Not painful. They give me a local anesthetic and then proceed to take the long curvy needle and poke around for about 5 minutes. Tap tap tap. I watch the whole thing because I'm sickeningly fascinated.

Way to go, ladies!!

Just an FYI, I only got 1CC for my first fill and really did not feel very restricted at all (had it done 10/31). Last weekend I flew to Vegas for a conference and BOOM- I felt it. I could barely eat more than 3 or 4 bites of food at a time without being in pain. I originally thought it was because of my flight-I hear airplanes can squeeze you up a bit-but I have been home for 3 days and I still feel it.

So give yourselves some time. It may take several days or even a week or two before the restriction kicks in!

I'm happy to hear that your 1st fill was uneventful and painless.

I had my 1st fill 2 weeks ago (1cc) and only felt minor restriction for the first 2 days. After that, it was the same as before I got the fill. So, I called this past Monday and went in the following day to get my 2nd fill (another 1cc). Even though it has only been 2 days, this restriction feels much different than the first time. I have a feeling this one will last for a while.

I get my fills done by the nurse practitioner in my surgeon's office. She doesn't use flouro (whatever that is) but rather does the fills by touch. She feels for my port, has me do a semi-crunch, injects the lidocane and then the saline. I don't feel either of the needles.

While I'm not the least bit afraid of needles, I'm so glad that this fill process is so painless.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
