New to site Not to the band

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say hello to everyone I have been reading on the forum since my surgery in Dec. 2007 but this is my first time to post.I just wanted to share my story a little so here it goes. I had my surgery at 334lbs and lost 15 the first 2 weeks post op :smile:Then struggled up and down 10lbs here and there then I was laid off from my job and gained all back and more:thumbdown: I was at my highest weight ever @376lbs when I guess I had the aah!haa! moment I should have had a year earlier. Better late than never! Now Im on track and have lost 95lbs since Nov this year:smile::bored: I almost gave up and had my band removed because I was not losing the weight I wanted to. Now I realize my band was not the problem It was my head all along and I had to use the band to help me and not wait on It to do the job itself. So to anyone discouraged out there I understand and can say you are notalone just hang in there and make it happen for yourself

Glad that YOU are now succeeding. As you say when its not working people tend to blame the band but quite often it is not the band that is at fault.

I really appreciate your post. I too am new to the site. I've been frustrated for the majority of my journy so far (only about 34 pounds lost in 10 months). Have known all along it is me and not the band preventing the weight loss I expected, but it's good to hear others experience the same thing. It's especially great to hear that inspiration/motivation can come later in the process! Keep up the great work.

I am so glad I finally got it had a follow up wed. and am 7lbs away from being down 100lbs since Nov. So if any one out there is struggling it can be done no matter how much time has passed It took over a year to get going but Im doing it it is possible!:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
