back and banded!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!! Was banded on 11/25 and I am soooo happy!!! The whole process went very smoothly!! I did get scared when they started prepping me for surgery to the point where I told them I had changed my mind and wanted to go home!! But then the anestheseologist came in and talked with me. I told him I was really scared and he asked me if I wanted something to calm my nerves or if I really wanted to leave. I told him I just needed to calm down and he put something in my IV and WOW - I felt 100 % better!! After that, all I remember is waking up in recovery and them saying everything is all fine! I am just suprised at how well I feel. I have been taking it easy - I know better but I feel really good!! I do have some gas but it's not painful at all and the only pain I have is where my port is. All the other incisions are fine. I only really need to take my pain meds when I am getting ready to go to sleep. Can't believe I have made it to the other side!!! WAHOOOO!!!!

Hi Carmen -

Welcome to Bandlandia!!!! Glad to hear it went so well for you. I'm now four weeks post-op and feeling great; go for my first fill on 12/10. I'm looking forward to having some restriction because I don't have any right now and food goes down way too easily! But I'm trying to remember the mantra - "The first six weeks are for healing, not losing." Just remember to use this time to be good to yourself and not overdo because you are feeling good!

Congratulations! I'm so glad it went well for you. But do take it easy for at least a week. I, too, felt great after surgery, but I overdid it and made myself a little weak and shaky one day by trying to do too much. But congratulations again. You're on your way!

Nancy

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
