So I am just curious what happened at your first post op visits? Did your surgeon examine your incisions? Did they talk about your diet? Or was it just a quick- how are you doing blah blah...

I got weighed, they did vitals, discussed the meds I am taking and Vitamins. Ask about problems with eating. we did not really discuss nutrition. They took out my staples and told me to come back in two weeks for a fill. Pretty short and sweet.

Mine was really fast. He looked at my incisions and asked how I felt. I said my port area was still sore, so he didn't do a fill. I think it took all of 5 minutes. So far my doctor hasn't said anything about my diet, but then I have been losing weight.

Mine was yesterday....felt quick...almost had to make him look at the incisions...LOL! we talked briefly about when to call for a fill...bam! Done. Kinda disappointing....frankly, its almost like "you're done, no need to talk" with the program coordinator as well. I'm not a high maintenance patient, but do have some questions that I feel kinda dumb calling about, more from the feeling that I'm interrupting than anything. Started to notice the change when I got within a week of the surg. No contact at all from the program coordinator post-op at all. Oops, sorry to vent...hope yours is a productive visit.

They sound s bit deflating, and that's a shame. Mine was the opposite.

My first visit was 6 weeks post-op. He was really excited about my weight loss, and called me skinny. Was also thrilled that I no longer need meds for my BP or reflux (had hiatus hernia repair too). He checked my wounds, and gave me a fill of 3.5 ml (4ml put in in surgery). He wanted to know if I liked the dietitian and her advice. He sat and dictated his report to my 2 referring doctors so that I could hear what was said. And gave me the opportunity to ask any questions without feeling rushed.

From now on I see another doctor for regular fills, the next one coming up next week. I'm told he's really nice too, so I hope so. He's also available 24hrs/day, 7 days/week for any urgent problems, so it will be worth getting to know him.

Hope your next visit is more positive.

It was the one office visit when I didn't see the doctor. The nurse removed stitches, checked my incision, and answered any questions I had. That's it

I had an impromptu visit yesterday. I'm a week post-op today and I was still having severe shoulder pain - now attributed to the large hernia repair.

I had called because I was barely getting any releif from the pain and any form of exercise that made me breathe harder than normal caused immense pain - so they set me up for an upper GI and told me to bring the films with me to the office when I was finished.

He showed me the films, explained the hernia repair more, looked at my incisions and asked if I had any problems. He was really caring and reassuring and said that I needed to be more patient and let my body heal.

He even obliged and gave me a hug. I think I lucked out and picked one of the best surgeons that I could have. The office is also still very helpful and never seems too busy to help me with any issue - be it a back-to-work note or a receipt for my FSA.

I'm sorry that others have not had positive experiences, but take heart - there are good surgeons out there.

I saw the nurse first to be weighed and vitals taken. They asked how I was doing and went over my medication list (same every visit).

When I saw the doctor he checked my incisions, asked how I was doing, told me I may not lose much before my next visit, could maintain, or possibly even gain a bit, but just to follow the food plan and hang in there until my first fill. Told me not to buy a lot of new clothes as my size would keep changing quickly. He also helped me find my port. I had been feeling right under my incision when laying down, it is actually about 1-2 inches above my incision and was felt the best when standing.

My appointment was uneventful. The nurse weighed me and went over medications. The surgeon didn't even look at my incisions. I should have asked him to. As a matter of fact a suture was hanging out that later caused a slight infection. Anyway- other than that, I am very happy with my surgeon and the care I am getting.

hat was pretty much mine too. The assistant weighed me and he came in, looked at the stitches, told me it looked good and he was done.

I asked a couple of questions, how much Protein should I get (40) how much Calcium (1000) and how long eating only 2 oz (until I lose all my weight) and that was it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
