Greetings all, I have just joined this site, so forgive me in advance for not doing something correctly here. Currently I am 3 weeks post opt. Things appear to be going well according to my surgeon, Dr. Chylsta and PCP. But that swollen pouch feeling seems to have disappeared even after drinking fluids and I am more often than not feeling gasy. Are these common feeling or should I be worried about something

First, welcome to LBT! You did exactly right...the introduction forum is a GREAT first stop! And congrats on getting your band, too.

Okay, you say the swollen pouch feeling has dissappeared...in what way? do you mean you you can eat and drink with little to no discomfort? I'd say that's great news! If that's not it, please explain. And the feeling gassy...are you talking about the surgery gas or intestinal gas? Whichever one...it should be getting better with time so you sound right on schedule to me. Yay!!

Welcome aboard.

If you're not feeling 'swollen' I'd say that is a good thing. Most people get hungry after the surgery, and many gain some weight back once they are able to eat 'real' food again, before they gain any restriction with fills.

Good Luck and we're glad you're here.

I'm almost a year and I still have left shoulder pain, which I never had prior to surgery. I guess if that gas bubble can't go down or out, it's gonna float to the top, LOL.

I was just banded on Friday and had to stay in the hospital one night due to chest pains. They had a cardiologist see me and EKGs ran and stuff like that. It was just gas that had settled in my chest. I started full liquids this morning, but when I tried to drink my Protein Drink it gave me heartburn. Is it o.k, to take Mylanta chewables or something like that? Thanks, Darla

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
