How much fluid in syringe tube?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had 6.3 ccs in my band but it was too loose. Next it was filled to 7.1 and was too tight. The the doc took out .3 to put me at 6.8 and it is too loose again. When the doc removed the .3 he made a comment about removing .3 but not knowing how much was in the syringe tube. I had never even considered the Fluid in the syringe tube as an extra factor. Since there will always be that fluid in the tube that is not measured/in the syringe are all things equal? In other words, when the fluid is at the .3 mark in the syringe does the doc also then count what is in the tube and add that to the .3 or is that not factored in since the fluid in the syringe tube is always there? It also seems strange that 6.3 was too loose and 6.8 seems just as loose as 6.3, things don't seem calibrated correctly. I go back in on May 5th and think that I should ask to be filled to 6.95 since that is mid way between 6.8 and 7.1. Any advice? Thanks in advance for your responses.

The Fluid in syringe tube should not be a factor, it is always there, 0.3ml into the port is 0.3 into the system. The port tube is not made to inflate, the band is!

For me 0.25ml made the difference between being able to eat and only being able to drink!! This was not good. Tread carefully, you are nearly there. You could ask the doc to take out all the Fluid and measure it but it is not relevant how much is in it now you are this close to good restriction. All that matters in knowing how much you put in and if the effect is good, bad or not noticeable.

If you are losing weight then the fat pad between your band and stomach will shrink and the band will loosen. Initially this happened on a monthly basis for me. Now I can go 3 or 4 months without bothering for a fill and I am losing steadily but not too fast. 36kg in 9 months.

Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
