How long after surgery till your appetite returned?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Just had the surgery yesterday, and I'm doing pretty well. But the BEST news is that after 4 days of feeling like I was starving on the clear liquid diet, I have absolutely no appetite. How long does this last? When does the appetite usually return? My surgeon has his patients on Clear liquids for 10 days after the surgery, full liquids for another 10, then soft foods for 10...then gradually adding other foods.

Thanks!

I couldn't tell you! I was never lucky enough to have no appetite. I would say just count your blessings and go with it! :(

The restriction you are feeling now is due to the swelling from surgery. Once you finish healing your hunger will start to come back. The time period between healing and restriction from fills can be hard so enjoy the non-hunger while it lasts!

I was starving after about 4 days on the clear liquid diet. I cheated and added Tomato Soup to my diet on day 5. I wish I could do a do-over, I'd follw the rules a little more closely! You're lucky to have no appetire - enjoy!

Blessings!

I had my surgery on 4/6/10 and I have just now gotten my hunger back. It took about 3 weeks for me.

Mine came back after about 3 or 4 weeks, but the hunger hasn't been bad. I did get hungry sometimes before I got the band, but most of the time I ate just because I wanted to. I wasn't really hungry, and it is still a struggle for me after the band.

Driven mad by the desire to chew something about 10 days after surgery. Fortunately I had an appt at day 12 and was told to go ahead with mushies and progree from there. Real hunger returned about the same time.

Hi,

I was banded on 1-13-10 and have not been hungry since. The doctor said, at first, that it would come back, but it has not. I don't think it will. Sometimes I feel a bit "hollow" but not hungry. The doctor has since said that this "side effect" is rare but does happen.

I got banded on Friday, April 16, 2010. I had absolutely no interest in eating ANYTHING (barely any interest in drinking anything) until Tuesday. By Wednesday, I was sick of Clear Liquids. But I am still mostly drinking Water and tea and not "eating" very much. Tonight I smelled Fried chicken in the store, which is my big vice, and nearly went insane. Actually considered trying to eat a little, even if it made me puke.

I fought the urge

Some people may not believe this...but my hunger returned about 5 hours after surgery! At first the dr. didn't believe me either. He kept saying it was head hunger and the growling in my belly was gas (and yes some of the growling was), but he finally did believe me before I left the hospital (I was there 2 days). I can honestly say my surgeon did an awesome job and I really did not even swell up like most people do. Needless to say, this made the post-op liquid stage hell. My surgeon finally let me advance a little faster because I was so miserable. I did clears for 1 week and full liquids for about 4 days, after that, Purees was like heaven on earth .

I was banded on 4-8 and the hunger has just started coming back. I never used to get hungry till evening and that is still the case. My Dr. only allows 3 meals a day which is fine except for the fact that I have to force myself to eat before about 6 pm which is when I actually feel like eating.

I was banded on April 12, and have been feeling hungry the past two days. Today I made sure I had enough protien and Water and my stomach was actually growling. I had my first BM since the surgery yesterday, maybe that's why I'm hungry now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
