After all my ultrasounds and stuff - looks like I have gallstones - they said I can get those done at the same times as the LAP-BAND® or wait til after - I figured get it all done at once - anyone else have to get their gallballder out at the same time as being banded???

Hi! I was supposed to have my gallbladder taken out at the same time...unfortunately, my gallbladder was inflamed, infected, scar tissue, completely obstructed and my gallstone was so big they have no idea how I didn't feel it...

Long story short, they only removed my gallbladder and I have to go back in two weeks to have the band done. I wasn't completely shocked when they told me because my dr's warned me that this was a possibility.

It used to be common practice to remove the gallbladder during banding. The thought was that rapid loss often resulted in gall stones, so they'd cut to the chase.

They determined that the incidence of postop infection is FAR higher when the procedures are performed at the same time. Many surgeons now prefer to do the cholecystectomy first, allow healing, then do the banding.

It's nice to get it all done in one fell swoop, but I'd want to explore the added risk first.
