Greetings from Seattle. I am banding in 5 days.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am traveling to TJ, Mexico to have my band placed. I am a self pay and could not justify paying 17,000 for the band here in Seattle. So off to Mexico I go. Any hints on things I should take with me? Is there anyone out there that lives in the Seattle area that would like to chat?

Thanks:rolleyes2:

Congratulations on your decision! When is your date?

I was very well looked after in TJ. I would take some good reading material and a phone card. My cell didn't work there and calls were very expensive.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I was banded on 4-15-10 and doing quite well. I am having some gas pain in my left shoulder, but otherwise really good.

TJ was great. I felt very taken care of as well.

I am wondering if I can have yougurt this soon. My post op instructions say not until the third week, but I have reached online a little and have found different. Do you know?

Thanks

CONGRATS!!! I was banded on the same day you were. I was lucky enough to have my insurance cover it. My surgeon allowed yogurt from the day after surgery. I guess it is just based on who you see.

Hi,

I would follow the docs instructions to the letter. I had my surgery done in TJ Mexico too on 2/4/10. I was on Clear Liquids for 7 days then full liquids (included liquid yogurt) 2 weeks after then solid. No mushies at all. Liquid for 21 days sucks but I'm glad I did it. Many of the posts on here are helpful but the food information is really conflicting so I just followed my doctors orders. I would ask him questions about what others had done and he had his reasons why they shouldn't do that and he had been doing this surgery a lot longer than many docs in the US so I did exactly what he said.

I too was self pay and I'll be darned if I am going to pitch that money away and have the potential of losing my band later for a quick gratification now. But that's me. I do know it' s not easy. So good luck with your will power. I needed mine I'm sure you will need yours too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
