Hey everybody! I've been working toward getting Lap-band® approved by insurance since January, AND ITS FINALLY DONE!! I meet with the doctor next week, and its typically 2-3 weeks before surgery! I probably won't schedule until mid-May because I have family coming to visit and I want to be sure I feel well during their trip.

I've done a lot of research, but this forum has a lot of "real world" information, so I plan on spending some time reading in the next several weeks.

I have two basic questions at this point:

1. Any recommendations for Protein shakes (taste good/less calories) for the first couple of weeks?

2. How about Vitamins and supplements? At the introductory seminar, we were told to take liquid supplements or crush pills. Any preference? And if liquids are the way to go any "chain" recommendations?

This is a great site. I look forward to "meeting" a lot of you in the next few months (and years) of major transformation.

Hi! Congrats on the approval! I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and had my pre-op appt today and should be going in for surgery in the next two weeks, still waiting on a set date. The nutrionist told me I may have to do a two week liquid diet, but the surgeon said I didn't have to do it because I have a low enough BMI, but I'm going to do it anyway so I have a head start! I went to the store tonight and bought the Vitamins and shakes. I bought the slim fast shakes but I havent tried one yet, and I got Multi-vitamins with Iron, B Complex, and Vitamin D all in pill form, so I will probably have to crush them after surgery. Good Luck with your surgery!

I thought I responded, but I'm just getting the hang of the forum. Thank you for your recommendations! Keep me posted on dates; we can support each other!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
