how long on liquids after the first fill?

Recommended Posts

several people have said that they had liquids the first day or two after a fill and then went back to pretty much normal eating.

my surgeon has me doing a week of liquids and a week of mushies before going back to solids. is this typical or is he being a little overly cautious? i mean...ill still follow his orders obviously, but im just curious as to what everyone else was told.

also all day yesterday (i had my fill yesterday morning), i was hiccuping like crazy. not painful, deep ones. just small annoying ones that took forever to go away. at least 2 or 3 separate times, usually after the first bite of food which was Soup or a Protein shake. is that common?

My surgeon requires 3 days liquid and 3 days soft foods after a fill.

I just had my first fill. I had one day of fluids, 1 day of mushies then incorporate normal food. I definitely see a difference in restriction (and that is good). Pretty cool process all in all.

After each fill, I'm on liquid the day of, puree the next day, soft food the next day and then regular from that point on.

Only one fill in but this was exactly my experience. I am now 'tighter' in the AM so my beloved scrambled egg is gone on work days, replaced with a Protein shake, but other than that, it was fairly painless.

this is great to know. I was rather worried about it, but this is putting me to rest. I don't know about you, but my weight lost post surgery is slow. My Dr made me lose 40 lbs prior to surgery, and I actually lot 44 prior, but on ly 12 since surgery on 3-5. Has this also been your experience?

I had my first fill of 3.5 cc, and the doctor said 24 hours. He said I can transition to regular food if I want. The nurse recommended 48 hours since he's going to be out of town this week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
