Anyone from CT looking to share support?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting banded in 3 days and my weight loss program only offers a support group once a month. I'm hoping to get in touch with more people in similar situations. Even if it's just through email, it helps to know someone nearby is fighting this battle. Also, if anyone from my area (Windham, CT) knows of another support group, please let me know!

:)

Hi Laurie!

I'm from CT too ..where are you getting the surgery done? I don't know of any support groups in your area.. The Hospital I'm working with is Hartford Hosp and they have support groups on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. I had to go to two as apart of my pre-op and they were very helpful!!

Check out my blog and there's a whole bunch of other blogs that I have on the right hand side.. It's a great bunch of bloggers and we're all in this together supporting each other..

Take care!

Kristen

ps- Yay for your date being so close!! :tt1::thumbup:

Hey Kristen!

I'm also going to Hartford Hospital. My surgeon is doctor Darren Tishler and I believe we might be going to the same support groups. Even though I live in Windham, I travel to the Manchester, Hartford, and Glastonbury area an awful lot. I wonder if there is something like an "overeater's anonymous" near us. I'll have to google it. Either way, the support groups with Hartford's program are wonderful, I just wish they had them more often! I will definitely check out your blog and hopefully I can also get into chatting with you guys.

Thanks for answering my post!

Laurie-

That's so funny!! That's who I'm working with too! Dr. Tishler in Glastonbury.. such a small world..

I'd love to hear your experience with him (since your only a few days away!) ..

I have my Pre-Op appt with him on 4/2 ..Did you recently have your Pre-Op? I'm curious to see how long it takes from Pre-Op to surgery.. :tt1:

Lot's of good wishes to you!! Keep in touch!

That is so neat! Maybe we can talk back and forth about ideas, experiences, etc... Makes me feel so much better to talk to someone with the same doc. Other people have amazingly different experiences. Anyway, I was so incredibly lucky as far as the appointment timing. I went to the preop, talked to Tishler for about 10 minutes...basically just about any concerns I may have. The nurse came in just after and said "well, we actually have an appointment open 11 days from now. I pretty sure my jaw dropped! Alba had let me know that the norm would be about 2 to 4 weeks after preop for surgery. I was so excited and suddenly scared out of my mind at the same time. Only because I was not prepared to hear that and you do go for a physical with your primary care doc as well as a quick, no fasting blood test within the week before surgery. And, of course, I suddenly realized I need to go food shopping, grab a heating pad, hibiclens, get babysitters, start the liquid diet and so on and so on. Anyway, I hope you get just as lucky! I'm all set now and happy to be getting it over with sooner rather than later.

I should tell you that you really do get used to the liquid diet pretty quickly. It wasn't as bad as I thought and two nurses have called from the hospital to make sure I have all questions answered and everything ready. One of them was so nice and we talked for over an hour. She really put my mind at ease about the surgery, etc...

Any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. You're welcome to email me directly too:

TY for the support!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
