dealing with a "full" signal

Recommended Posts

I am trying to make this work. Today I had a snack of crackers and half-fat cheese - I know some people would say I shouldn't have this, but my nutritionist recommended this as an appropriate snack. It is solid and likely to fill the pouch, and not a slider.

I had one cracker and a bit of cheese, and immediately felt full.

What should I do? a) keep everything out on the table, thinking, "I'll wait 10 minutes and then I might be able to manage some more"? or  put it all away.

My resolution is: as soon as I get a "full" a signal, PUT EVERYTHING AWAY. Once you are full, your snack or meal is OVER. I reckon I could still put on weight with the band if I refused to acknowledge full signals...

I agree with your resolution although sometimes it pains me to see all the food I throw away. I then say to myself.. it's better in there then on me (or my hips).

Yes! Stop when you are full! If you eat beyond that point you may get sick. You may find you need to eat a small amount every couple hours, I think that's fine.

I agree with your thinking of putting the food away when you are full. I find that if food is visible than I tend to I pick at it - grazing is not a good thing. It defeats the purpose of having the band. If you think about how many calories you can consume throughout the day by grazing - absolutely you can gain weight. It sounds like you know when it is time to stop, I applaud you!

I am still new to this and trying to retrain my brain. I don't have to finish everything on my plate! I need to stop when I feel full.

I have this issue too. Sometimes I will get restriction after only a couple of bites and my lower stomach will still be very hungry or I just know I need more nutrition to survive the day. So I will put it away and go back to it in 30 min or an hour.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
