Cookbooks or Books on Lapband Support

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any recommendations for books for additional support for lapband surgery?

Also, any recommendations for cookbooks? I've seen a few on Amazon but I always want more resources lol.

Does anyone have any recommendations for books for additional support for LAP-BAND® surgery?

Also, any recommendations for cookbooks? I've seen a few on Amazon but I always want more resources lol.

There are some interesting topics and recipes shared in this section/forum food and Nutrition - LAP-BAND

I do remember some comments about some cookbooks but not sure which threads they were on.

You know, I bought several books from Amazon that are either cookbooks for life after lapband or other WLS, or books about WLS with recipes added.... and frankly, so far, I prefer my other regular cookbooks!

I use a LOT of recipes from weight watcher's cookbooks, and I love my annual editions from Cooking Light. They have great low fat/high nutrition recipes. I also use the recipes from Cooking Light magazine, which I get. Yes- some of them are too Pasta heavy or whatever, but not all. And even the Pasta ones aren't off limits in my book (but would be to some people who are mostly cutting out grain-based carbs-- I think whole grains are important, and use whole wheat pasta).

I bought several books from Amazon about lapband support. The best one is “Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band“ Everything you need to know before and after surgery to lose weight successfully by Robert W. Sewell, M.D., FACS.

It has a lot or personal stories in it too the good and the bad. I have read it several times and still pick it up and read portions of it.

Out of 3 books I got pre op this was my number one favorite. I am still refering to it.

Thanks guys, this is what I'm looking for, personal opinion on what works for others! I like reading but being on a tight budget makes me have to aim for 1 or 2 most recommended books.

"Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray.

It has recipes that can be adpated to all stages of post-op, from liquid to mushy to solid. Some really yummy recipes too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
