Hi everyone! My name is Chantal. I have been wanting the lapband for several months now. I have a two year old that I wanna be around for. I have completed all of my insurance requirements, and am now waiting for the word if I'm approved or not. Has anyone else had approval through BCBS of Texas. And if so how long did it take to get approved? I hope to get to know some of yall, it's neat they have forums like this to support people.

Hi Chantal! My name is Becca. I have BCBS of Michigan. I had met all of their requirements and it was about 3 weeks before I heard back. I only had one co-morbidity. I have a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. I went to the seminar on 9/15 and had my surgey 1/28, so just over 4 months from start to finish. I'm so happy I did it! Keep me posted on where things are. Good luck to you!!

I guess I was lucky. I requested information mid Feb 2010, went to seminar 2-27, had initial consultation, phone psych eval, dr. visit 3-16 to meet the surgeon, and I am scheduled for surgery 4-1-10. Must be fat enough to make them think Im gonna cost them money if they don't do the surgery. I tend to think that it has been so easy because it is the path that God needs me to take so I can be around for my daughters. One is 10 and one is 8. Just keep trying. It will be worth it, I'm sure. Good luck.

I think waiting for approval was the most stressful part of the start of this journey. I have Empire Blue, which is out of New York. It took me about a week and a half to get the word. My insurance actually called me before my doctor.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
