Brand new and I have a question...

Recommended Posts

I am researching the lap band, and I have a question. I was in a car accident about a year ago and was left with an injury to my carotid artery that requires me to take one low dose aspirin daily. Will this effect my eligibility for gastric banding?

I also was wondering if my other injuries could effect my eligibility. During the car accident, my neck was broken in two places, two of my ribs were broken, and my lung was punctured and collapsed. These injuries have all healed as well as possible. The only long term issue is the damaged artery.

Does anyone know if its possible for me to still have the lap band placed?

This would be a good question to ask a lapband surgeon.

They may have you stop taking the asprin for awhile before the surgery. A surgeon would have the best response to the questions you have though.

I had to stop taking asprin a week before surgery , you may be required to do this also, a check would no doubt be made by your surgeon if this would cause you any harm...

Best of Luck..

I doubt the other injuries would stop the banding as they would be all healed ....

My "guess" is that you should have no problems with surgery due to the things you mentioned.

I know the aspirin is safe. I take one 325mg aspirin daily following a heart attack. I just had to stop the aspirin 1 week prior to surgery and started again the day after surgery.

Make sure to tell your surgeon everything. He/she will clarify it all for you.

Hi, I just want to say I'm so happy to have found this forum. I've got my consultation on Mar 22nd and all going well I'll have the operation on Mar 27th. The postings here have been a great help and I know I'm doing the right thing! I'm 5ft 6in, weigh 19st 10lb, bmi is 44.5. I've been eating healthily since Mar 1st to make sure I can do it afterwards. I'm 44 and really want a second chance of good health.

Aha, do I detect a UK connection, Maree? The clue is in the weight. Our transatlantic buddies tend to think we are referring to rockeries when we start to talk about stones!

You're very close - I'm from Ireland! In fact I'm having the operation done in Birmingham, UK. No, I don't own 19 rockeries, weigh around 122kg

Welcome and good luck. We get lots of Irish students in our local Uni - if ever you are in Newcastle Upon Tyne gimme a shout.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
