Try sucking ice chips - for me they work far better than warm liquids when you are stuck like that. Makes sense really - you put ice on bruises, sprains, strains etc to reduce swelling not a heat pack.

I was told that after a stuck episode I am to be on liquids for 24 hours then mushies for 24 hours because of the swelling. Eating solids before then could cause a band slippage.

Puking at 70 mph on the interstate, yup I've done it too... now my (new to me) car is a FoodFree Zone!

Not proud of it, but my learning curve has been steep and almost entirely trial and error.

Thank you for that.

I'm really nervous about drinking

because it starts the extra saliva flowing.

At least it did last night...

I wasn't sore after throwing up,

but I think I'm really swollen.

I feel ya, I've had the same thing happen to me, you are craving a food so bad, and your brain is saying, you can eat it, you can eat it, and in an instant your brain says no you can't, no you can't!!! LOL! But, it seems the only way for us to learn is by experience, I go for another fill today, and I am ready for my liquid diet for a day! I think I will be really close to my sweet spot after today, and from my own experience, I will not be trying hardly any of the foods I've been eating the past couple of weeks!!!

LOL!

It was so surreal for me because

people are passing me on the hwy and

here's me trying to "play it cool"

with a paperbag attached to my face,

with me heaving into it.

Uh...NOT cool.

I had a mild stuck episode Saturday. I was filled on Monday, and I knew I was tight. I don't think it was a big piece as much as about one bite too much. I was swollen after, and had trouble even with liquids. I just sipped Water the rest of the day and I was even swollen a lot of the next day. I am also much more carefull now!!! Hugs!!!

My question for more experienced bandfolk is, does this have to happen? The feeling of restriction alone doesn't in some way warn you to be careful? I'm guessing that most people have to make the same mistake. I just hope not to! I will though, I'm sure. To me the moral of the story is to just test your limits within the comfort of your own home!

Eating while not distracted is a definite plus!

Being careful helps, for sure, but it does not guarantee no stuck episodes.

The smaller the bite the better off you are. Also, I do worse with finger foods. I tend to take a much bigger bite (like with a chicken wing).

I am a little over two years out now, and I rarely get stuck. But it does happen sometimes. However, over time, I have found what works best for me to end the episode (bringing it back up). So, they are usually minor occurences now, rather than huge events.

To the OP, driving while eating...never a good idea! Poor you! I could not imagine being stuck and sliming while driving! Dang!

Use it as a learning experience and move on.

RIGHT THERE WITH YA!!! I had my third fill this past Saturday and WOW, what a difference! Trial and error has been my "friend" since starting solids again after the fill...I've heaved, I've puked, I've slimed, I've had the coronary-like chest pains. UGH! Today was the first day I had no problems, but GOODNESS did I learn after my trial and errors to take SMALL BITES and CHEW THE LIVING HELL out of my food before swallowing!

Great Story !! I printed it out to put on my fridge, on my vanity mirror and where ever else it will help me remember. Thanks for sharing your story, I am sure you have saved several of us from the situation.

I have been 'stuck' soooo many times. Is this normal?? Especially after fills... but I have yet to throw up. I drink and drink til it goes on down, no matter how painful.

If the saliva in the back of your throat is what you mean by 'sliming'... I have always done that whenever I felt like tossing my Cookies.

I had my 3rd fill on Monday and today I got a pill stuck... one that is time released and cannot be cut up. Didn't have any problem with it yesterday? On top of that, the mushy I ate today got stuck on top of the pill, I think? Almost couldn't get it down!

Still, I wouldn't change a thing. I have lost 58 lbs since Dec. 22. =D And most the time I love the feeling of restriction. I am up to 5cc now in a 10cc band.

Gee... only 120 lbs to go til goal. Better than 180? hehe

Ouch! It does feel miserable, doesn't it?

Your message is right on. With a new fill come new rules. I learned this with my second fill last week. I've since had two stuck episodes---neither as entertaining as yours (not to make light, but you tell a good story!). I've gotten stuck on pills, halved (which worked fine before, but no longer do).

It's an awful feeling, but sure does keep me on the straight and narrow, food-wise!

I have taken to the habit of pausing before each meal to take a second and remind myself to take small bites, eat slowly, and chew-chew-chew. It has really helped me, especially when I get overly hungry and am ready to eat everything in sight.

You definitely have to maintain a sense of humor about stuck episodes.

This is a little graphic, but funny.

One of my funnier slime episodes was when DH and I were camping. I got stuck on a piece of bread--big surprise! Normally when I get stuck, DH leaves me alone to deal with my troubles, because he is very squeamish. But in our little motorhome there are not many places to go to slime in peace.

So, I am hanging over the sink, letting it run out of my mouth, as I usually do, waiting for the offending item to decide if it would like to go down or come back up.

Well, I had a string of slime running from my mouth to the sink. You know that thick gooey kind that you can't break? It had some air bubbles running along it, slowly sinking down.

DH walks by and says, "oh, look how pretty, it looks like a pearl necklace!"

Yeah, never bust out laughing with a mouthful of slime! What a mess!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
