Sleep Study - or Fun with Wires

Recommended Posts

Well, I managed to get an earlier CPAP titration sleep study by being on a wait list, so I had the mask fitting yesterday morning and the study last night. I got the Opus Nasal Pillows and they seemed the least claustrophobic.

Riddle me this: I fell asleep without a problem and slept for 6-7 hours with this alien nose thing on. I woke up and felt like total crap. I was so tired this morning that I almost fell asleep while driving home and I NEVER have felt that way in my 22 years of driving. I thought this was supposed to make me feel great...like the best sleep in years kinda thing. Ummm...WTH?

In any case, I should have pulmonology clearance (I don't have to get a home machine) in a few days, doc review of my file and then off for insurance approval. Let's hope they can actually accomplish something quickly here because I have vacation in May.

So here's to being done with CPAP and sleep studies. BLAH!

Reading these posts has been really interesting to me! I have gone thru two sleep studies, and they were both awful. How they expect you to sleep with the wires and such, I don't understand! The first time was probably the worst for me because I was severely depressed, (I have bipolar disorder) and to top it off, while I was there, my daughter who was 15 at the time called to tell me that her stepfather had let her drive the car into the garage, and she had crashed into the washer and dryer and knocked a hole in the wall of the house! That really freaked me out, so much for sleeping that night! I was given a CPAP after that, but never once used it!

My second time was better than the first, and was given another CPAP machine. (different insurances), It was hard at first to get used to my nasal pillows and the hard flow of air going down my throat, but eventually I got used to that, I wear my mask every night, and I admit I feel better in the morning. Not any more refreshed, but no sore throat etc. My mask slips all the time, I drool horribly but I breathe all night thru and don't stop breathing.

Thats my CPAP story, just thought I'd add it to the rest!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
