Ga_girl! I have been observing for a few days now and it's about time I said hello! I have my banding surgery this Thursday Nov 10th. I am excited, but also nervous. I am thankful there are so many wonderful people available to talk to. This is an awesome site and will be at the top of my "support system". Wish me luck!

Welcome new friend. So glad you enjoy the people here, they are really very compassionate, kind and supportive people with tons of knowledge and experience. If you have any questions, concerns or just need a hug, we are here for you. There is no such thing as a stupid question and it's always much easier for any of us to know we have a lot of people praying for us and wishing us well.

Hi everyone,

this board has been great for me. It's really helped me to make my decision to have the lap-band. I am scheduled for November 14, one week from today. I am lucky, no liquid diet for me, just a no carb diet for this week. I am getting excited and nervous, I just got off the phone with the hospital (Troy Beaumont, MI), that really made it seem real.

Wendiss, you must live fairly close to me, I am in West Bloomfield and my surgeon is Dr. Deol.

Thanks to everyone who's posts I have been reading, they are all helpful. I will try to post after my surgery and let everyone know how it went. So far they have told me, no eating after midnight the night before, no jewely, contacts, no make up,no lotions on your body etc. for going to the hospital that AM. She said I should take a robe and slippers, personal hygiene stuff. Any advice/tips from anyone on this? I think I'll take a book and my cell phone.

My ticker should be moving down soon, yahoooo!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
