Okay so I think I am either not in tune with my body or I have no concept of what restriction is.

I went in this morning for my fill, I went to radiology and the doc took a look at my current restriction level (does fills under fluroscopy) and looked confused. He said, "you have restriction-are you not feeling full? Are you able to eat more than you should be?". I explained that I could eat 8 ounces, but I could keep going. I just stop myself. He said he could argue either way, but he'd put some in and we'd take another look. He put some in, stood me up and I swallowed more barium and he said, "This looks good. It's not refluxing up and goes down just as it should.". I asked him how much he gave me and said .8 ccs. He didn't have my chart, so I'll find out how many he put in for the first fill on Tuesday when I go into his office.

So I can physically see on that screen that I am restricted. I know I'm tighter in the mornings, but the doc said if he gave me much more that I would be throwing up in the mornings and not able to eat.

Could my ability to eat larger portions really be all in my head, just head hunger? Has it taken anyone else longer to grasp these concepts?

Thanks for listening to my rambling!!

I am constantly fighting with myself about eating too much. But then i think about it and I realize even when I think I'm eating too much it is still nowhere near as much as I used to eat. The only thing I have gotten from my latest fill was that stuff seems to get stuck more often. If it is something that I can get down and keep down then I feel like I could eat way more then I should. I understand your frustration. Oh and I have now had the fun of getting stuck twice within the last two weeks in public (that was a lot of fun lol)

Hard to say. I had 4 fills to this point. 3 under flouro. It always looks tight after he is done. I know I have some restriction as I slimed for the first time yesterday morning after a small bite of a Peanut Butter cracked. I am tight in the morning and more loose by night time. My problem comes with what I eat. I struggle to focus on solid Protein if things are mushy potatoes Beans I can eat a bunch. The key to me being full is eating very slow. If i eat slow I find I eat much less

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
