How did you deal?

Recommended Posts

How did everyone deal with that time period where you could eat the same amount as usually? In the begining I count calories lost weight and things were great. Now I have plateaued for the last 2 months or so. I have changed up my workout since I think my body adjusted to my workout. I have gone back to counting calories and adjusting them to but I have not budged on the scale. I get frustrated and have had my calories as low as 1000 calories and as much as 1500. I then overeat..it is like the will power I had in the begining is gone. I have gotten to the point of believing that maybe 50lbs lost and weighing 200 lbs is all there is for me. I need out of this mind frame!! Any help would be great...especially from those who have been in this same position.

Thanks,

Alison

By "the time period you could eat the same amount as usual," do you mean the time before you achieve restriction?

It's really hard! That's where I am now, and I am doing my best to just stick with my doctor's (quite strict) regimen.

What are you eating? In what amounts? It sounds as though you journal; do you use a site like Fitday, which tells you the breakdown of macronutrients (protein, fat, carb) you're taking in? If so, try tweaking it. See if upping Protein and knocking down carbs helps.

Really, though, I think achieving restriction is the critical factor. And I think it pays to be proactive--pick up the phone and schedule an appointment for a fill, even if it's sooner than your doctor thought you'd need one. I just did exactly that. I had one a week and a half ago, and the doctor didn't think I'd be ready for another so soon---so I was scheduled much farther out. Well, I'm ready. So I'm going in!

Really, most of us do have a period where we can eat like we did preop. But there's no sense in prolonging that phase!!

I just tried to make good food choices and start the habits I would need once I had restriction. I didn't worry about 'how much' I ate. I was up front with my doc that they could tell me all they want to stick to 1 cup of food at a meal, but it wasn't going to happen...and it didn't.

I also pushed aggressively for my fills. My first was at 4 weeks, then a fill every 2 weeks. Even so, I managed to average out at about 2 lbs loss per week during that time. By 3 months postop I had restriction and for the last almost 3 weeks I've been losing at a rapid rate...18+ lbs so far.

maybe you need to top off your band. I have read several posts that as you lose the band may get a little loose.

maybe a fill would help you keep your calories at the right level.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
