3 days postop- sleep question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Friday, 2/12 and have not been able to get comfortable enough to get any decent amount of sleep. I am usually a stomache sleeper, and just cannot fall asleep on my back. I've tried sitting up and laying flat, then I tried to shift to my side but it feels like I'm stretching my insides out. I would give anything for a good night's sleep. Any advice appreciated. thanks.

Try pillows - I'm not ashamed to say that I stole my wife's pregnancy pillow (ok, she wasn't using it) for support after the operation. sleep and rest after banding are important. Maybe you should consider a relaxant or sleeping pill to get you through. Good luck, and congratulations on your banding!

I am a stomach sleeper too and found the pillows to be very helpful. It does get much better. Hang in there.

I'm a stomach sleeper too, and found it tough to fall asleep the first few nights. My saving grace was that the pain killers made me sleepy so I timed my doses those first 2-3 days to just before bedtime.

This is funny, but for the first 4 days after surgery I was SO SORE that I would sit on the edge of the bed and FALL OVER on my side and this was how I had to stay all night!! Gradually it got better--the idea of the pillows is great! GOOD LUCK!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
