My insurance carrier accepted my PCP's referral to the surgeon w/out requiring any additional documentation or additional time of monitoring.

I'm now scheduled to meet with my surgeon on the 17th, with my psych set for the 19th. According to my coordinator the info from those visits will determine whether I am approved for surgery by the doctors, and ultimately my insurance.

I'm a bit nervous, but resigned. Can anyone relate?

Everyone gets nervous at this point in time because you aren't sure whether the insurance company will approve you or not. And after they do approve you, you get even more nervous thinking about the surgery. Allow me to tell you that if you do make it to the surgery part, you will do great. It's honestly not that bad. Of course all surgeries have risks but to be honest if I had to do it all over again I would.

Take a deep breath, relax and get through these stages. Before you know it you will have your approval and be on your way to surgery.

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted and if you have any questions along the way don't hesitate to ask. The people here are wonderful for support.

My appointment with the surgeon is on 2/17 too. I already had the psych evaluation and am meeting with a nutritionist on 2/10. After everyone puts their reports together, they will then submit to my insurance carrier. I am a wreck about all of this so I absolutely know how you feel. I am excited at the same time though! Good luck to you.:)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
