Cardiac consult today - now need more tests!

Recommended Posts

I had my cardiac consult today and they told me that I also need a stress test and an echocardiogram. Did anyone else have to do these too? He said that my EKG was pretty good except for a small abnormality which he said was normal for someone who had had hypertension for a long time.

This happened to me as well, except I didn't have hypertension, had great cholestorol and had never ever had high blood pressure, I failed my ekg, failed my stress test and then had to have a cardiac catheter. Thank god everything was ok. My capillary's were spazaming. I got my lapband within 2 months of my cardiac cath. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, I had to go for the ekg and the stress test also. I did well on both and was ok'd for surgery March 24th. I also had to go for 2 sleep apnea tests. What a pain. The first one they didn't do it with the mask and then they called and said I had to have it done over again with the mask, I'm going

tomorrow night and I hate every minute of it. I also had to go for an endoscopy to make sure there was no blockage from my throat to my stomach. Good luck. Eileen:cool2:

I know it's discouraging--but the cardiologist really does need to make sure that the ECG change is related to your hypertension rather than a blood vessel occlusion (that can be corrected BEFORE surgery).

I know it's a cliche, but it's for your safety. A morning in a doctor's office can make a huge difference for your future health.

In the end, you will still get your band! (But yes--anything that prolongs the wait seems agonizing!)

Good luck with the testing! I am sure you'll be green-lighted, and sitting on the banded side of the fence soon.

Thanks for the encouragement Betsy! I guess I am just afraid that something will come up and they will say that I can't have the surgery! In reality I know it's a lot better off to be safe than sorry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
