Consign or Goodwill?

Recommended Posts

Help! I have piles of plus size clothes that need homes. I have lost 80+ since my banding in 10/08 and am down to sizes I haven't worn in over 12 years. I have suits, casual clothes, high end and brand name stuff ranging in sizes 26/28 down to 18. I would like to recoup some of the money I spent on these outfits but am leery of consigning (never have done it). I don't know what's a good store in Jacksonville, whether plus sizes will sell, etc. Any input would be helpful! Thanks.

I would consider donating at least some of it. Think of it as celebrating your success with the Band by sharing with someone else. There are also some clothing exchanges on some WLS Boards where your clothes might be able to find a new life. Congratulations on your "new size"!

I take my clothes to the Salvation Army thrift store, good will or a church run thrift store in my area. I know how hard it is to get nice plus size clothes and hope that mine go to people who can really use them or at least the money from the sale goes to people who are down on their luck. We have a consignment store here, but I don't know how they work. I have shopped there and there are several notices posted to potential sellers, usually that they are not accepting certian clothing at that time. You might look them up in the phone book and give them a call. We also have a local online classified site and I have seen clothes for sale on it also Ebay is an idea. I have bought some nice clothes from people on ebay. Good luck.

Just today, I took a load of clothes...at least 30 items to consignment stores & the rest I donated. And that's just the beginning. Battered women's group is a good place to donate. So many of these women leave their homes with just what they can carry...they can use all of the help that they can get.

I'm doing really well, but it's still not easy. My eatting was a symptom of other problems that now I must deal with.

I'm concerned about my last adjustment. I hurt even eating cottage & pureed fruit. Yet, I can eat (slowly) canned chicken & soft cooked yellow squash more easily. Am I too filled?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
