Spining -totally intimidated

Recommended Posts

Can a big woman Spin? I'm very bottom heavy & klutzy on top of that  I'm excited, but really nervous to try. I'm taking part of of a 12 week fitness/weight loss challenge at our health club. They offer several classes for much lower cost for those in the challenge. Anyhow, RPM is the one that will fit with my schedule. I'm an early morning exerciser, time FT working Mom of a 5 yr DD.

So do I give it shot? Or would I be better off waiting till I lost more weight? I've been walking/jogging/marching in the current channel of the pool. I also have recumbant biked & eliptical (my fav).

I am a guy but at 320. I love spin class. It can be self paced, just do what can. Yes, it can be intimidating to go into the class with people who do it all the time, know all the class rules and are already athletic. Just go for it.

Yes--absolutely! I love spin--it was one of my favorite workouts back long before I got the band and it was great! Beware that you will likely experience some "saddle soreness" in the beginning; but, from what I understand, pretty much everyone has that experience, whatever their size.

Have fun!! It really is a fantastic workout!

Well you won't know for sure unless you try! Everything deserves a spin... (pun intended)

Spinning is fantastic, dont wait! Nobody is ever looking at you the way you think they are.

Its great because its lower impact and you can probably work a lot harder (and burn more calories and fat) than you could at anything fully weight bearing. But be prepared, you will probably need to take it very easy to guage your abilities for the first few classes, it can be extremely strenuous. But it is very much able to be self paced.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
