I just wanted to share an experience I had today...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I had RNY Jan. 8, 2009. I have lost all the weight my surgeon wanted me to lose except for one pound! But that is not the experience I want to share. I lost my ATM card (AGAIN!) last week. So when I went to the market this afternoon I had to write an old-fashioned check. When I presented my driver's license with the old photo of me weighing about 100 pounds more, the cashier did a double-take and said "Wow! You've lost a lot of weight." It was really and truly nice to have a stranger compliment me on my weight loss.

This is about ten years ago, I had lost over 100 lbs on phen phen. It worked well for me, but I lost the battle of keeping it off. When I was thinner, I wanted to buy some beer and they wanted to see id for proof of age. Well, I felt complimented because at the time I was 30. When I produced my driver's license, the cashier refused to sell to me because she just "knew" that pic could not possibly be me. I was angry at first, but then I realized I should just be thankful. I smiled all the way home even without my beer.

Now, I am back where I started. I will start again. This time with a tool to keep my weight off.

Congrats!!!! :frown:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
