Lap band surgery vs. c-section

Recommended Posts

Wow, I haven't been here in a long time. I was banded Feb 2009 and a year later (almost to the day) I will have a baby!!! I'm really nervous about the c-section, I only have 3 weeks as of Wednesday!

If you have already had both, how do they compare?

HI there, just wanted to say a quick hi, I was banded 2006 but currently not using my band much as a losing weight tool, I have just found out I am pregnant, can I ask if it gets too uncomfortable with the port the bigger you get? I will watch this thread too, hope you get some answers, good luck and congrats of course!

C-Section was absolutely fine for me-of course the pain medication was stronger. I had a more difficult time with the lap-band- can't tolerate feeling naseus AT ALL. Try not to worry too much- everyone has different experiences and you won't know what yours will be until it happens. I know how nervous you must feel waiting for the c-section- but how exciting at the same time!!!!

The c/s was worse. My first c/s was horrible, but my second was pretty easy. Being banded was a breeze!

My port doesn't really hurt, it's just kinda sore as I've been getting bigger. The only port issue I've had was when the baby kicked me right on my port, though I was going to cry!! Good Luck!!

I agree that the experience is different for everyone.. I had a friend that had the worse time after her c-section.. so I can only speak for myself. I found the c-section must easier than being banded. After the lap band I had that terrible feeling of pressure in my chest and all from gas or whatever. It was hard to get comfortable sleeping. With the c-section it was just difficult (felt only a mild burning) to get in and out of bed for the first couple days.. but hey.. you're still in the hospital on pain medications lol so it's fine. I didn't have any wounds to dress or anything with my c-section and no pain from it at all. And besides.. you'll be so into your new little one to think about recovery as a struggle! I had a band slip and just had it replaced the first week of January and I still have some pain around my port and crazy itching incisions.. so having done that twice now.. and one c-section... I'll vote for easier c-section! Either way... I'd say if you did well with band surgery... you'll be great when baby is finally here! Good luck!

Congratulations, tink0527!!

First, I will say that everyone's experiences are different.

I was actually just talking about this with mom this morning... she asked me how this compared to my c-section and I said, wow, no comparison at all... The band surgery recovery was so much easier in many ways than my c-section recovery.

I will say a pray for you that you have a swift and easy recovery from your C-Section.

God Bless and I wish the very best to you and your new bundle of joy!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
