3rd fill today - very dissapointed - need your thoughts

Recommended Posts

So I went for my third fill today and was really looking forward to some restriction.

I have been struggling the same 3 pounds for the last 5 weeks, and only lost 1 lb according the dr scale today .

He asked what was going on and i said well, the scale isnt moving, he asked if i was feeling restriction and i said no not really , i did for about 1 week after the last fill , then nothing.

He removed the Fluid that was in the band - and where i should have had 4.5 cc, i only had 2. Somewhere ,somehow i lost 2.5cc.

He added that 2 plus 2 more back in and said if i feel no restriction to come back in 2 week for a check.

My question is, has anyone here had fluid dissapear and not had it from a leak that required a second surgery ...

I am very dissapointed and frustrated at this point.

I have heard of people 'losing' some Fluid. There are quite a few threads on it. Try a search!

I know everyone is different but it seems like it takes 4 or 5 days for me to feel anything different after a fill. I just had my third today also & don't feel any different. I'm not concerned because the last 2 fills it took almost 5 days & then.......WHOA!! Makes no logical sense to me but whatever!!

Good luck! Hang in there!

The doctor never was able to pull the amount of Fluid that they had recorded as giving me, but it was in the 1 cc range. I was told that they just aren't generally able to pull out 100% of the Fluid.

I don't know if this is true, because they always seemed to measure pretty closely, but a nurse who is a friend of mine (not a nurse from my doctor's office) said that with these type of saline fills they don't always measure as accurately as you might think.

Based on the size of your band, it looks like you have the Lap Band. I was told that several people with the Realize Band (the one I have) seemed to "lose" fluid on checks, and partially that was based on it being a "low pressure" band, and the fluid not as easily pulled out as the Lap Band.

2.5 cc does sound like quite a large discrepancy. I hope you don't have a leak. However, if I were to ever have a band problem, that or a port flip seem to be the easiest to fix and requiring of the least evasive surgery. Good luck, and I hope you get good news when you go back in for a check.

Could they have missed your port on your 2nd fill ? Then the Fluid would have never been in the band at all.....

I understand what you are feeling -- or not feeling. I had my 4th fill last week and left thinking wow I am really going to feel the restriction! I went from 1.2 cc to 1.7 cc and NOTHING!!!!!!! I have called my surgeon and the PA said if I still felt nothing by Thur- tomorrow- then come back in Friday. So what will happen Friday? I am also worried because I was at 1.4 cc but she only got out 1.2-- so where did it go? and where is this last .5 cc?????? Can the band leak-- I have never heard of that.

I was banded on 10/29, went in for my 2nd fill today and gained 1 pound, have only lost 25 total, 8cc in already and feeling no restriction..dr told me that "restriction" is a cop out and that I have to learn to eat properly, 1/2 cup increments and the fact that I could still drink 16 oz. of Water while he was putting in the saline, he told me that my sensory / gag reflex could be off and that because of that I need to me "more careful" because I could eat too much and stretch out my stomach. UGH, I came home and cried...but tomorrow I will get over my pitty party and start over...if I do not see results by Mar 3rd appt, I will be asking lots of questions and finding other options.

Since I didn't get any restriction, even temporary after my first fill of 3 cc and my second fill of 3 cc, they took it all out of my band to make sure I didn't have a leak. They were able to take out 6 cc.

Maybe it depends on the type of band? I have the Realize band.

Oh gosh I feel the same way! I have had 2 fills. After the first fill I felt nothing. After the second fill I felt it, very small sensation but still I felt it and was thrilled, I thought the band was finally going to start doing its job. Now I am back to not feeling a thing. I go for fill #3 on Monday and will ask about pulling it all out to measure it and then re filling it. I HOPE I DONT HAVE A LEAK! Can that happen?? It's plastic so I am sure its not impossible.

I am hoping the frusteration will be gone soon, I too have been messing around with about 3 pounds...up down up down up down .... thats why I got the band, to get off this friggin roller coaster!

I am hoping this post will give you guys some peace. After my 3rd fill I had 6.2 in my 10cc band and felt absolutely no restriction. My 4th fill he put .5 bringing me to 6.7 and BAM! I stay full 4 hours on 1/2 cup of food! It was like someone flipped a switch. It really is quite amazing once you get there.

Your DR is full of BS. I have had 2 fills and I have restriction. If I eat too much or too fast or too big of bites, my body has a fit! I get a horrable pain in my chest, my mouth starts making this really thick saliva, and I start throwing up, and this lasts for hours! It is impossible for me to overeat, my body wont allow it... Remember Dr's are people, its his work that you are questioning so its easier for him to blame your eating habits than to admit maybe he didnt do as good of a job placing the band as he could have. Keep getting fills until your band is maxed out and then if nothing happens you may want to get a second opinion.

Thank you so much for posting this. I went to a support group meeting for emotional eaters last night. The gal who runs it is banded and skinny. She says that we must all advocate for ourselves and push those doctors to fill us to our sweet spots. My doctor does the fills every two weeks until we get there. It was very motivational to be around someone who has been in my shoes (no restriction) and has won the battle of the buldge! Great meeting. And your post did help me a lot!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
