Restriction/Fullness

Recommended Posts

Posting this here, as I posted initially under general and didn't realize there was a specific "fill" section (sorry!)

I think I've driven the post-op section of the board nuts with all my restriction questions LOL!

I got my first fill last Thursday and I feel no different than before (which I kind of expected), but in some ways even hungrier than before the fill (which I totally DIDN'T expect).

I called the surgeon and they are getting me in for another fill, but we're looking at the second or third week in February  so I am left to deal with this until then.

My question is: what signal(s) do you get when you're getting full? Everyone keeps talking about the chest pain, but I've never had that. I did actually have about a 10 ounce lunch and while I had no chest pain, sliming or PBing, my belly is FULL. No pain, no hunger, NOTHING! I haven't felt this way in awhile. Is it going to hurt me eating over 8 ounces? It was good food (6 ounces of chicken from the crockpot, a salad w/ lettuce, Tomato and green pepper and a 100 calorie pack--total about 450 calories in all). I just can't take being hungry any more and I need to make it to the next fill... I don't want to stretch my pouch either.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

The best I can give is to put the amount of food you are SUPPOSED to eat on your plate. Eat it slowly, even if you feel you don't really need to take the time. After you have finished, you will probably realize you are satisfied. Maybe you won't be FULL, but you shouldn't be hungry anymore. This is what I did until my first fill and I continued to lose weight until my fill.

There are many times, even now, that I COULD eat more food, I just don't. I just ate a small burrito and 1/4 cup of refried Beans. I would LOVE to have another(really yummy), but I am not hungry anymore, so I won't eat it. Honestly, since I have restriction, the extra burrito would probably hurt after I finished it, but it would taste good.:wink2:

It isn't a matter of being full, it is a matter of being satisfied. It takes practice to get used to that.

Don't wait for the band to scream at you that you are full, which it WILL do as you gain restriction. Listen for the whisper of satiety and stop eating then. You will be thankful for it. Eat slowly, pay attention, and listen.

Satisfied is comfortable, full hurts. At least for me.

Best wishes!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
