I Need Reassurance

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was banded on Dec 16th, so tomorrow I will be 5 weeks out. So far I have not experienced "bandster hell". I know i am extremely lucky for this as well. I can only eat about 3/4 of a cup and I am full and it keeps me full for 4 hrs. Sometimes longer if what i ate was a lot of Protein. The only thing is, is i don't have problems with anything I eat. I can eat bread, Pasta, rice, etc. I have a fill scheduled for the 25th but I am thinking about not getting one. Going into this I never wanted to be one of those people who's band is so tight that i can't eat like a normal person. I feel that the band alone is working great for me as of now so my thoughts are I shouldn't mess with a good thing. As of this morning I had lost 20 lbs since surgery. I just was wondering what everyone else thought, if they would get the fill or not.

I wouldn't get a fill if I where you. Sounds like you are doing just great. However, you may want to have a "just incase" appt. for a few weeks down the road. If you wait until you have a lot of hunger you'll probably have to wait additional time for an appt. That is, if your doctor is as booked up as mine. All the best, I think your doing fantastic.

Jess, if you are eating under a cup of food and are still satisfied for at least 4 hours, I'd say that's the restriction most of us are looking for. Like you said, you don't want to be filled so tight. Heck, I've heard of people who got filled so tight they weren't able to swallow their own saliva and had to get an unfill.

Everyone is different with the problem foods too. I find I am one of those people who can eat all of the things most people can't (thank God). I have had one fill and am scheduling my second as I don't have real restriction yet, so I'm scared that my ability to eat bread and Pasta will go away, but I honestly need to be able to eat a cup of food and be satisfied. Right now, I stop at a cup and I'm still starving!

If I were you, I'd actually hold off on a fill for now. You sound like you're doing great from a restriction point of view and you have a great loss! Congrats on the 20 lbs!

LOL, for me...I would probably get a fill. But that's just me. I know when it's time for a fill when I can eat bread again. But, if you don't have to pay out of pocket to go visit your doc, I would go to the appointment and see what he thinks (instead of listening to all of us). Do you know if you doc put some Fluid in your band when you had the surgery? Some docs do, so you may already be experiencing some good restriction. You could be one of the lucky ones :)

If it is not too expensive for you to go in for a visit, I would go in anyway and talk to the doc about how your feeling. Get his professional opinion. Maybe you already have some Fluid in your band? Congrats though on doing so well.

Thanks for responding! I think I am going to go ahead and see what my doctor thinks. Even though I am leaning towards not getting one, but we will see what happens!!! Hope everyone is having i a great week!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
