Hello from Alabama

Recommended Posts

I am new to the site, so hello to all.

I went to see the program coordinator this past Wednesday. It went well and lasted about an hour. The nurse told me I had to do all these tests and blood work before I could have the surgery. Amazingly, I got all blood work and tests done the very same day. Luckily I hadn't eaten that morning b/c one of the test had to be fasting. The dietitian was also free for that same day, so that was great. I go see my primary care doctor this coming Monday to get checked out and get her to sign something saying I can have surgery. I go see the weight loss doctor Jan. 25. so I think I will be able to have the surgery early Feb. (I hope). How soon after you first see your doctor does he/she schedule surgery? A week or two?

Welcome Jessica

I think the time line is different for everyone and the type of insurance you have is a factor in how quick or slow the process goes. You might get more helpful answers if you post your q in the pre-op or insurance thread.

Cheers~

I am self-pay so I figure it will go faster since we don't have go to through all those loop holes. Thank you for your response.

Hi,

I am very new to this - I live in New Mexico and was banded in Mexico. I have lost only 20 lbs. so far and got my first fill in late November. I have no idea if I am on track or totally off course.

Can someone please share their experience with me? I need to do my part which I haven't been doing. I need to start exercising and watch what I eat. I am also considering getting another fill soon.

In New Mexico we can only go to a fill center so I have had almost no aftercare. I just need to get my head on straight and reach out to others.

Any response would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Jessica, welcome to LBT! I was a financed patient--bariatric procedures were excluded from my insurance policy. I went to my seminar on May 19th and had my pre-op testing on May 21st. On the 21st, I made the appointment to have surgery on June 18th. I could have done it on June 11, but I was out of town that week

nmmama, you might want to consider posting a specific question as its own thread; you'll probably get more responses that way! My experience is all on my blog. Maybe looking around at blogs people have would help you out (look at signatures throughout LBT for links, as a lot of us are also bloggers .

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
