Hi all,

I am 32 5'11, 279 lbs and trying to get my weight down. I need some information and guidance.

1) how much time do you have to take off of work with this WLS

2) What is the average cost?

3) Does anyone know of any dr. in the Pensacola, Fl area they would recommend?

4) How quickly are you able to return to exercise, bending or lifting after WLS?

Thanks for the answers!

1) how much time do you have to take off of work with this WLS

Hard to predict because lots of factors .... and some you have no control over because it's just your body and metabolism.

2) What is the average cost?

If you are self-pay and willing to travel, you can find it as cheap as $4,500 all the way up to as much as $25,000

3) Does anyone know of any dr. in the Pensacola, Fl area they would recommend?

Someone else will have to respond to this; I'm in Atlanta, GA

4) How quickly are you able to return to exercise, bending or lifting after WLS?

Usually, a couple of weeks on up to 4 weeks.

4. Have you ever been to lap band's official website? That's where I started when I started researching the surgery. Lapband.com - LAP-BAND® System - Find Certified Surgeons in Your Area That is the website in which you can find a surgeon in your area. I also suggest you check out the website. They have answers to your other question as well. :smile2:

1) how much time do you have to take off of work with this WLS?

I had my surgery on a Thursday and returned to work on a Monday. I have a desk job with no heavy lifting.

2) What is the average cost?

My insurance covered it, but if I would have had to self pay it would have been $15,000 which includes an overnight stay in the hospital

3) Does anyone know of any dr. in the Pensacola, Fl area they would recommend?

Sorry can't help you on this, I'm in New Orleans, Louisiana

4) How quickly are you able to return to exercise, bending or lifting after WLS?

My doctor wanted me to walk the halls when I got out of bed and it wasn't bad I think it actually helps to start moving around right away. Nothing over 10lbs for 4 weeks then he upped it after 4 weeks to 15 to 20lbs. After 6 weeks he said I could go back to normal activity, just to listen to my body if it hurt to much stop.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
