Hey all,

I normally take 1500 mg of metformin every day. 500 after Breakfast and 1000 after dinner. My endocrinologist told me to stop taking the metformin until I am back on solid foods. I just had my surgery on the 30th. Did anyone else experience this?

Heck, my doc took me off all my meds (metformin, Amaryl and Avandia) starting the day of surgery. He checked my a1c 30 days out and it was 7.something so he said "let's check again in 60 days. In 60 days it was 6.5, so he said "I think you can just forego the meds entirely and I've neger gone back on them and it's been almost a year!

I also came off Lipotor and 3 blood pressure meds on the day of surgery and never had to go back on them.

My surgeon took my off of Metformin (for PCOS) and Spirnolactone the day of surgery, but when I went for my appt with my endo 3 months later, she put me back on my 1500 mg dosage. My testosterone levels had actually gone up instead of down, so I'm not free of the horse pills (which I have to crush) just yet.

I don't understand why everyone is told to crush their pills except me. Is my doctor a complete idiot? I take some HUGE pills, and he keeps telling me it is fine to take anything and everything whole. Including the metformin size and bigger

That is really strange! I have to crush my Metformin, and if I have to take Darvocet for my headaches, I have to crush those too. The only pills I don't have to crush are my Levoxyl and my BP meds.

I was on Metformin prior to surgery. My endo Dr. took me off my Met and Avandia starting the day of surgery. I was also taking Lantus and she added Novalog to make up for the MEt and Avandia, until I get on solids or until I see her again March. I have to crush the larger Metformin pills, but am able to take the small Avandia.

You only need to crush the pills if you are not able to swallow the bigger ones without them sticking. I crushed my metaformin the first couple of weeks, I don't have a problem swallowing them now. I hope to get off of mine the next time I go for my physical!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
