IS there a way to firm up saggy skin WITHOUT surgery???

Recommended Posts

:) Hi.... Can anyone recommend somehting to help me firm up saggy skin besides having plastic surgery.... I have lost 102 pounds so far (6 more to go) and I work out 5 days a week, 3 days doing cardio and 2 days circuit training. Has anyone had success with any particular exercise program to firm up that loose shar pei type skin?

Thanks!

Thanks for asking that question. I have the same question as you. There is no way that I will be able to afford plastics and I was wondering if there is a way that the skin will tone back.

Sorry folks. I've been there and tried everything. It really comes down to this. Your loose skin probably won't go away unless you have surgery. Remember, when you're working out you're building up muscles and burning fat. The built up muscles might take a little more room inside your loose skin, but exercising doesn't eliminate the excess skin. I've heard that if you lose 100 pounds you're probably going to need plastic surgery to get rid of your excess skin, or learn to live with it. There are alot of "Spanx" type of garments that will hide the loose skin well under clothing.

I wish you the best with your band and your new body.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

My guy lost close to 200 lbs (without the band) and doesnt have the loose skin I have seen on other who have lost less. As for me, I dont think I will be that lucky. I am older, was overweight longer and have a fair complexion. Right now I am not planning on having it, but I just have to wait and see how much difficulty I have once I have stabilized at goal for at least a year (my criteria).

Well, that sounds awfully like my routine and I dont have significant loose skin after 100lb loss - not that I'm tight as a drum either! To be honest, its just the luck of the draw.

I could say that running, circuit training and bootcamp prevents loose skin - becuase that's my experience. But I dont really think it was the exercise so much as choosing the right parents.

How did your guy keep firm during his weight loss?

No idea. I could tell you what he did, but in the end I have no idea why he looks so good. Luck, genetics, melanin, hard work, diet? I guess all we can do is the best we can do and go from there.

I read an article once that said that losing muscle helps to cause the loose skin and lots of exercise, drinking Water, and TIME will help to bring the skin back. It said the skin needed time to recover just like any other organ. It may mean that some people's skin just takes more time to heal than others. It also mentioned that there was still fat deposits left inside the skin and that's why more exercise is needed.

I don't remember where I read it but I remembered that part of it. I think the link was once posted here on the forum.

For sure - every "before" photo you look at of tummy tucks, there's a LOT of fat in the pannus. I've only seen a true excess skin pannus once or twice and its very very thin.

Hi, Well for me its my tummy!!!! That extra skin from pregancy and c-section has left that oooooooooo yucky!!! (smile) They say to do crunches but that is for the muscles not that skin

This is a good question. I have also read that you have to give your skin time to rebound from the weight loss.

I think it all depends on what type of outcome you want to achieve.

I agree with Jachut as far as there still being some fat with the leftover skin. The excess skin itself basically just hangs almost paper thin. I would think that would be pretty hard to get rid of, but maybe over time?

It mostly depends on your age and the luck of genetics (also the way your fat is distributed) In my mid thirties, I lost over 150 lbs and had very little loose skin. (meaning it wasn't quite as tight as it used to be, but there was no sagging whatsoever). Now, the second time around (I was banded January 27), who knows? I'm a little older and my skin has been stretched too many times.

One thing I know for sure, excercise will not help with lax skin. But barring cosmetic surgery, (which can leave hideous scars, which also happed to me too ) there are some procedures that can help with minor sagging such as the Titan laser or Thermage. Even lotions that help boost the collegen and elastin in your skin can help a little.

Just my two cents... good luck everybody

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
